Jailbreak iPod Touch 1G, 2G, iPhone 1 Gen, 3G, 3GS on 3.1! (Mac)

 

The Dev Team has realeased their jailbreak for: 

• iPod Touch First Generation and Second Generation
• iPhone 1st Generation
• iPhone 3G
• iPhone 3GS

THIS GUIDE IS FOR MAC ONLY! 

 

Welcome to the 3.1 (3.1.1) Jailbreak Guide. We will be using a jailbreak Tool called the Pwnage Tool. You will need to download the latest Version of the Pwnage Tool Here: 

Direct Download (ITS SAFE) 

iPod Touch 2G  Owners: 

if you are not using an iPod Touch 2G, skip this paragraph. You will need to be on the 3.0 or 3.0.1. If you have updated, read “Downgrade Your iPod Touch/iPhone” and will show you everything on downgrading. After you are on the 3.0, you will need to jailbreak it with Redsn0w. Click Here for the Guide. After that you will need to download the Jailbroken Firmware: 

• iPod Touch 2G

Once you have downloaded that massive file, you will need to restore the .ipsw in iTunes (Now make sure you are running on iTunes 9) by holding Option and Selecting the Firmware you downloaded and click open. Your iPod 2G is now jailbroken. This is a very PAINFUL PROCESS IF YOU UPDATED TO THE 3.1. with iTunes. Just follow the articles and  you should do fine! 

OK! Lets get Started!  

Step 1. Download the 3.1 or 3.1.1 Firmware of your device Here!  

Step 2. Open the Pwnage Tool and select your device. If you own a iPod Touch 2G or 1G, select iPod Touch. If you own and iPhone 3G or 3GS, select the 3GS iPhone. Make sure to select Expert mode. 

Once you have selected your device, click the blue arrow. 

Step 3.  It will try to find the .ipsw file you just downloaded, select the .ipsw after it finishes loading. IF it does not load or show, click browse and select where you downloaded the iPod/iPhone Restore File. And click the blue arrow. 

Step 4. Select Cydia Packages, this is where you can choose to not have icy or to have it. This is and optional for people who know what they are doing. If you are a newbie and can not understand, just click build and the blue arrow. 

Step 5. It will prompt you to save the .ipsw. I would save this file in your documents for safe  keeping, but your choice. 

Step 6.  Let it build the .ipsw and let it load. 

Step 7. Now we have to put your Device into DFU mode. You will see a Tab on the top DFU. You can follow the Directions, but here is what it will say: 

1. Connect Device to USB
2. Turn off Device
3. Prepare to hold the home and power button for 10 Seconds
4. At 8 seconds, it will say prepare to release the power button, but don’t to it then
5. Once the Ten seconds is up, just keep holding the HOME button! (Hold for 10 seconds)

Troubleshoot: if mess up in DFU mode, just hold the home and power button for 20 Seconds until the Device turns on. If you get an error message in iTunes, unplug your device, and plug it back in. 

Step 8.  iTunes will now say there is a iPod/iPhone is restore mode. You will need to hold Option Key on the keyboard  and Restore button in iTunes and select the Custom Firmware that was made in the Pwnage Tool. Find it where ever you saved it. (I said to put it inside your Documents) Click open and let your iPhone/iPod Do the process. 

Note: If you are jailbreaking the iPhone 2G, it will do a boot loaders. Let it do its thing and do not touch it. 

Step 9. Once it finishes, You will have a jailbroken device.
