On Friday, the Dev Team said on their Blog that the iPod Touch can not be jailbroken if you updated to the 3.1 (3.1.1) Firmware, but have to downgrade and then jailbreak it with redsn0w again. First, you are going to need to get the 3.0 or 3.0.1 Firmware onto your device, download the Firmware by clicking [Here]. Once you have downloaded the Correct 3.0 Firmware for Device, you will need to download iTunes 8. This downgrade only works for iTunes 8. I have two download links for both mac and PC below:

Mac

PC

Next you will need to put your device into DFU mode. Doing this is really easy following these easy steps:

  • Plug in your Device into the computer you want to downgrade with
  • Turn your device off with the USB cable still inserted into the computer
  • Hold the HOME and the POWER button for 10 Seconds
  • After holding those two buttons, Release the POWER button, BUT keep holding the HOME button until iTunes gives a Message Prompt saying it has found a device in Restore Mode.

Trouble Shoots for DFU mode:

  • If you do something wrong during the process, hold the HOME and POWER button until it turns on. May take up to 1-5 minutes to turn on
  • If you get an error message instead of iTunes saying “found device in Restore Mode,” unplug your device and plug it back in!

Now you will need to install the Firmware onto the Device. Open iTunes and have your iPod/iPhone screen up. There should be no information about the device there.

Mac: You will need to hold Option & Click Restore and a window should come up. Open the Firmware you downloaded from the website I told you about earlier. Let the iPod/iPhone restore with that Firmware.

PC: You will need to hold SHIFT & Click Restore and a window should come up. Open the Firmware you downloaded from the website I told you about earlier. Let the iPod/iPhone restore with that Firmware.

You have just downgraded your Device to the 3.0 or 3.0.1. If you want to jailbreak it, continue to the Redsn0w jailbreak guide by clicking here!
